Mariners infielder Guillen retires
Guillen, who was in camp as a non-roster invitee, had not played yet this spring because of sore knees and said, according to Greg Johns of MLB.com, "Your body tells you, you know?"
Guillen, 36, finishes his career with a .285 average, 733 runs, 266 doubles, 51 triples, 124 home runs and 660 RBI in 1,305 major-league games. Guillen made three All-Star teams over a five-year stretch (2004, 2007, 2008 after being traded from Seattle to Detroit), but numerous injuries, including microfracture surgery on his left knee, have limited his playing time and effectiveness over the past three seasons.
